Students Receive Awards for Writing
Congratulations to LHSSF sophomores Elizabeth Ascher, Hope Dunkle, Reilly Nelson, and Colin Thuringer! They were recognized by The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2019, presented by the University of South Dakota.
A panel of writers and creative professionals selected works exemplifying three core criteria: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice. Elizabeth’s short story, “In the Waters,” was awarded the Silver Key award! Hope Dunkle’s poetry, “Faded Jeans and Cotton Shorts,” was awarded the Gold Key award, and her short story, “I Have a Name,” received an Honorable Mention award! Reilly Nelson received Honorable Mention awards for her short story, “The Princess is Long Gone,” and her poetry, “Not Happy Without Bubbles”! Colin Thuringer’s poetry, “The First Notes” was also awarded an Honorable Mention! Congrats again for these achievements in your creative endeavors!
